Your first bot trade, followed from start to finish

Never used a trading bot? We follow one trade through Atheron Trading, from the API key that cannot withdraw to the plain explanation you read afterwards.

If you have never used a trading bot, the whole idea can feel like handing your money to a black box. It does not have to work that way. Here we follow a single trade through Atheron Trading, one step at a time, so you can see what happens, who decides what, and where you stay in control.

Step 1: Your money stays in your exchange account

You start with an account at a crypto exchange, in your own name. Your money sits there and nowhere else. Atheron never holds customer money. This is what non-custodial means: we can place trades for you, but the funds are always yours, in your account.

Step 2: You create an API key that can trade but never withdraw

An API key is a code your exchange gives you so software can act on your account. When you create one for Atheron Trading, you give it permission to trade and nothing more. It can never withdraw.

That single setting is the heart of the safety design. Even in the worst case, a key that cannot withdraw cannot move money out of your account.

Step 3: You set your rules

Before anything trades, you tell the bot your limits:

  • Budget: how much it may use.
  • Stop-loss: the point at which a losing trade is closed.
  • Coin list: which coins it may trade. Anything not on your list is off limits.

These rules are not suggestions. They are checked before every trade, as you will see in step 6.

Step 4: You start with pretend money

Paper trading uses pretend money at real prices. It lets you watch how the bot behaves without risking anything. Until launch, the bot trades with paper money only, so this is where everyone begins.

Step 5: Two AIs look at the market separately

The bot is run by ATON Kestrel, our own AI model. Inside it, two AIs look at the market in different ways:

  1. The first reads charts, meaning price and volume.
  2. The second reads news and social posts, looking for sentiment.

They work separately on purpose. A chart can look strong while the news turns sour, and the reverse happens too.

Step 6: Both must agree, then your rules get the final word

A trade only goes ahead when both AIs agree. If the chart reader sees an opportunity but the sentiment reader does not, nothing happens. Doing nothing is a normal and frequent result.

When they do agree, your rules are checked. Is this coin on your list? Is there room in your budget? Is a stop-loss in place? If any answer is no, the trade does not happen.

Step 7: The order is placed in your account

Once the checks pass, the bot sends the order to your exchange through your API key. The trade happens in your own account, under your name, where you can see it in your exchange's history like any trade you placed yourself.

Step 8: You read why it happened

Every trade is explained. You can see what the chart reader saw, what the sentiment reader saw, and which of your rules were checked. If a trade surprises you, the explanation is where you start.

This matters more than it sounds. A bot you cannot question is a bot you cannot learn from. Reading the reasons helps you decide whether your rules still suit you.

What stays with you

The bot does the watching and the clicking. You keep the decisions that matter:

  • You choose the exchange and keep your money there.
  • You decide what the API key may do.
  • You set the budget, the stop-loss and your approved crypto list, and you can change them.
  • You can delete the API key at your exchange whenever you want, which stops the bot from trading.

An honest word on risk

Crypto trading carries real risk. Two AIs agreeing does not mean a trade will make money, and a stop-loss limits a loss rather than preventing one. Prices can move quickly, and the price you get may differ from the one you expected. We do not promise returns and we do not predict prices.

What we can promise is the process above: your money stays in your account, the key cannot withdraw, your rules are checked every time, and every trade comes with its reasons. If you want to see that process for yourself, start with paper trading at Atheron Trading and read a few explanations before you decide anything else.
